Hawa Mahal also know as “Place of Winds” located in heart of the beautiful Pink City of Jaipur – Rajasthan, Hawa Mahal is one of the most famous place of attraction which Built in Seventeen hundred Ninety Nine by Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh of Kachhwaha Rajput dynasty.
Hawa Mahal is a beautiful structure made of red and pink sand stone that construct to facilitated royal women to get an eyeful of the street festivals, It is a Five story building, which has arched and carved small size chhatris.
About Structure and History
This structure built in the form of Krishna crown beacause Sarai Pratap Singh was devoted to Krishna, (Hindu God) The wall of Hawa Mahal have 953 jharokha or balconies, each of them are size of a peep hole such that the royal ladies were not to be seen by public, here you feel cool and fresh air can pass, most unique part about the Hawa Mahal that at all times a light breeze passes through Jharokha or balconies, which keep it cool and airy in all time. That the main reason how the Hawa Mahal got its name, In hindi language Hawa mean wind.
All five stores have a name, whom top three storeys are a single room thick namely Hawa Mandir, Prakash Mandir, Vihitra Mandir, The Maharaja worshipped the Krishna (Hindu God) at Vichetra Mandir, While Prakash Mandir is a open terrace to both side, there you find ramps instead of steps to upper floor, these use for the Palanquin of the Royal ladies and queen.
From rest two one is Sharad Mandir located at first floor where the autumn celebration took place, and Second floor name Ratan Madir where you see colorful glassworks.
